More about the VR1 GRP cabinet:

The VR1 is the most compact unit in our floor-standing GRP range, measuring 470mm wide, 320mm deep and 660mm high, with a single lockable door giving a 370mm x 560mm clear opening and a 410mm x 510mm 18mm ply backboard fitted as standard. Its small footprint makes it an easy fit on tight verges, plant rooms and crowded compounds where a full-height kiosk simply will not go.

What is the VR1 cabinet used for?

The VR1 is sized for a single distribution board, a metering position or a compact control set. It is a popular roadside and utility housing for electricity metering, street-lighting and feeder connections, instrumentation, and small telemetry or RTU equipment — anywhere a neat, weatherproof cabinet is needed for a modest amount of kit. Because GRP is non-conductive and won’t corrode, it is equally at home on water and gas monitoring sites as it is on the highway housing CCTV, ANPR and traffic-signal control gear.

How much equipment will the VR1 hold?

Internally it offers roughly 450mm x 230mm x 650mm of clear space behind a surface-treated ply backboard, finished internally with a fire-retardant resin. That is comfortable room for a small board, a few modules of control or instrumentation and the associated glanding — without the bulk of a walk-in or large floor-standing enclosure.

How secure is the VR1?

The single door carries two stainless steel hinges, a Yale-type lock and a compression seal as standard, keeping the contents dry and out of reach on unmanned sites.

Is the VR1 suitable for permanent outdoor use?

Yes — GRP doesn’t rust, rot or degrade under UV, so the VR1 will serve for decades on exposed roadside, utility and coastal sites with almost no maintenance, and it carries no scrap value to attract theft.

What colours does the VR1 come in?

Green (BS 14-C-39) or grey as standard — British Standard references, not RAL — with any custom colour to a BS or RAL reference on request. See our guides to British Standard colours and RAL colours.

Does the VR1 come in other sizes?

The VR1 is 470x320x660mm — the smallest in the range. If you need more room, step up to the VR2 or the rest of the floor-standing range, or browse our roadside cabinets and walk-in enclosures for larger installations.
